b.1973, lives and works in Manila

Raquepo’s work is about the harum-scarum organization of our recent and current way of life. His paintings consist of densely-packed scenarios that are observations of society made via a concoction of such : kitsch-art-cartoons-graffitti-signs and symbols-cubist-shapes-motifs-graphic art, all in one Filipino-Catholic-baroque aesthetic and very much influenced by the jeepney. His paintings are also commentaries on art, the art system, as well as culture and life within formalist aspects of painting. Compositionally, the images are like hybrids and mutations of forms.  Raquepo has had several solo shows and group shows over the past seven years and is awarded the 2009 Asia Pacific Artists Fellowship at The National Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea.
